The Gold Coast City Gallery is one of the most prominent public regional galleries of Australia. It serves more than half a million visitors and residents. Currently, the Art Gallery houses contemporary and historical artworks all of which document the Gold Coast’s unique personality.

The Gallery opened way back in 1986 and was funded by the City of Gold Coast as part of The Arts Centre Gold Coast.

Expect to see dynamic exhibitions and diverse events. The Gold Coast City Gallery is home to one of Australia’s longest running art prizes, the Gold Coast Art Prize (formerly known as the Stan and Maureen Duke Gold Coast Art Prize).

The mission of the Gallery is to constantly offer high quality exhibitions, events for Gold Coast residents as well as promote – and encourage people to participate – in the visual arts.

Trip Advisor Senior Reviewer “Zac B” describes the Gold Coast City Art Gallery as “Brilliant.”

“Saw a fantastic exhibition at this public art gallery. It was surround-sound with images of the individual members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra playing their instruments on separate screens that the viewer could manipulate. Inter-active and fantastic. Enjoyable. Nice work.”

Trip Advisor Reviewer “upyerbut” advises gallery viewers to avoid the Arts Café.

“I took my wife to see a show recently and to avoid the traffic we decided to book at the Arts Cafe. Big Mistake, after waiting in line for around 20 minutes to order we waited another half hour before I enquired at the counter to get a time when our food would be ready. Shortly after complaining our food arrived. The beef stir fry had burnt meat, no sauce, dry inedible noodles and virtually no vegetables. My beef cheeks were cooked but that’s where my praise ends. It was a bland dish with no soul. The only saving grace was the very nice server who apologized and gave us our money back. Will never eat there again.”

Trip Advisor Top Contributor “AmandaC3” finds the Gallery, though small, as offering “..Good variety.”

“When at the Arts Centre I enjoy taking a wander through the gallery. The traveling displays are always worth a visit and there's always plenty of parking available. Can always combine with a trip to the movies or a show.”
